QUETTA, April 21: A gas well of the Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) received damage when unknown armed men fired rockets in Pir Koh area of Dera Bugti district, some 450km east of here, early on Sunday, official sources said.

“A rocket hit the gas well No 14 which caught fire,” senior officials in Sui said on being contacted by this correspondent.

Sources said that rockets were fired around 3am from the hilly area of Pir Koh and one of them landed near gas well No 14 and exploded.

Some splinters of the rocket hit the well, which caught fire. However, the OGDC engineers suspended the gas supply from the damaged well.

The OGDC’s staff, with the help of local administration, controlled the fire after an hour’s effort. The repair work has begun and the gas supply is slated to be restored within 24 hours, the sources said.

The local administration has registered a case against unknown people involved in the rocket firing. No arrests have yet been made.

It may be recalled here that over one dozen rocket firing incidents has been reported over the last two months in different gasfields of Dera Bugti, in which at least four gas wells were damaged partially.
