LARKANA, April 20: A survey of union council, Rasheed Wagan, was conducted by a team of the Sindh Welfare Trust (SWT) which unveiled that almost entire population of the union council was facing tough socio-economic conditions.

Azizullah Abro, chairman of the SWT along with the members of the team Abdul Razzak Dero and Rafiur Rehman Soomro conducted the survey.

The team found that 109 villages, with a population of 23,500, had poor health, education and drinking water facilities.

According to the survey a single Basic Health Unit (BHU) works with only one male doctor and a dispenser. Neither a lady doctor nor is any child specialist appointed in the BHU which has resulted in many diseases.

The team said that pregnancy related complications often led to harmful diseases and added that a single maternity home, in the village Sultan Jamarani, wore a deserted look for it had been closed for the last seven years.

The team further reveals that there is no girls school in most of the villages falling under the jurisdiction of Rasheed Wagan Union Council and the villages, where a few schools exist, are with out female students as they prefer boys over girls in matter of admission.

The survey team suggested that cattle farms and cottage industry be set up to improve standard of living of the people.
