OKARA, April 9: Hundreds of teachers in the district on Tuesday went on two-hour boycott on Teachers’ Joint Action Committee’s call over delay in salaries.
Wearing black ribbons, the teachers came out of their academic institutions.
The committee warned that it would continue protest till payments of the salaries and transfer of deputy DEO (male).
Robberies: Robbers on Tuesday made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in different parts of the district.
Reports said 12 robbers burst into Mushtaq Ahmad’s house in Chak 18/IL, tied him up and bagged Rs19,000 in cash and jewellery. They also took away a colour TV set and valuables.
Saddar Renala police are investigating.
Meanwhile, some nine armed men took away valuables worth Rs400,000 from the house of one Azizur Rahman in Chak 43/2-L. Police are going into the matter.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead on Monday over a money issue at Kalason Para Mull village.
Akhtar had borrowed money from Ghulam Akbar some time ago. When he demanded his money back, Akhtar promised him to repay the amount in two days. Akhtar took Akbar to a farm house of Mansab on some pretext where Mansab, Ayub, Faryad, Amin and Akhtar tied him with a rope. Later, Mansab shot dead Akbar.
Hujrah Shah Muqeem police have registered a case.
KILLED: A youth on Monday was knocked down and killed by a speeding car on the Okara-Faisalabad Road.
Muhammad Akram was crossing the road when the car (BRF-690) coming from Faisalabad hit him. He suffered serious injuries and was shifted to a Lahore hospital where he died.
