KHAIRPUR, April 6: A large number of activists of the Mutahidda Mazdoor Federation staged a sit-in here on Saturday against the non-payment of salaries of more than 100 ad hoc employees of the highway department of Khairpur.

Talking to newsmen, they said that non-payment of salaries for almost four years was violation of the human rights.

They pledged to continue their protest till the payment of their salaries.

They also announced to start a protest movement from April 8 by staging a demonstration.

Meanwhile, a large number of ad hoc employees of the food department of Naushaharo Feroze staged a sit-in at the goods godown and held a protest demonstration to press for the acceptance of their demands.

Their demands include regularization of their services.

More than 50 employees also observed a token hunger strike.

They pledged to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands.

STRIKE: A large number of activists of the General Shopkeepers Association observed a strike here on Saturday against robbery of Rs1,20,000 from a shopkeeper, Luqman Qureshi.

The representatives of the association told journalists that after the incident, citizens were feeling unsafe.

They said that their protest would continue till the recovery of the robbed amount.

SUSPENDED: The district police officer of Khairpur has suspended the SHO, Babarloi, Gul Hassan Jatoi, on charges of taking bribe from a person, Ghulam Fareed, for the release of his two sons.

RESOLUTION: A resolution was passed in a session of the union council of Sadarji held here on Saturday favouring the proposed referendum by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

The resolution was presented by the Nazim of the union council, Khadim Hussain Mirani.
