KHAIRPUR, April 2: The tail-end growers of Ali Nawaz Canal staged a protest sit-in outside the office of the taluka Nazim on Monday against acute water shortage.

The protesters presented a memorandum to the taluka Nazim about the water shortage.

Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the growers threatened to continue the protest unless shortage of water was ended and an FIR was registered against local irrigation officials who were allegedly involved in water theft.

INJURED: Four persons were injured in an armed clash between two groups in Hussainabad near here on Monday.

The injured included Shah Bukhsh Ujjan, his son, Afaque, and three unidentified persons.

Police have arrested five persons from both the groups.

ARRESTED: The Kot Diji police arrested six accused of kidnapping a woman, Shafia, here on Monday.

The accused were Liaquat Ali, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Hasan, Nooruddin, Habibullah and Gul Hassan while a councillor, Amanullah, has been already arrested.

Meanwhile, the police have not released the kidnapped women.

Khan Mohammad Khaskheli had registered an FIR with Kot Diji police a couple of days ago against around 24 persons, alleging that they committed robbery and kidnapped his daughter-in-law, Shafia.
