SUKKUR, April 1: The entire upper Sindh faced a massive power breakdown when a major fault developed in the Guddu Thermal Power Station on Monday night.

A highly-placed Water and Power Development Authority official said that the thermal power station at Guddu tripped at around 8:50pm due to a major fault as a result of which the area between Ghotki and Naushero Feroze plunged into darkness.

He said that the exact nature of the fault had not been ascertained as yet so it could not be assured when the power supply would be restored. It might take several hours, he added.
