GUJRANWALA, June 5: A list of industrial units which are adding to the environmental pollution was forwarded on Wednesday by the Environment Protection Department to higher authorities for shifting them out of the city.

The step was taken to mark the World Environment Day observed throughout the world on Wednesday.

The environment department conducted a survey of commercial units and finalized a list. The units are located in the congested areas of the city, Hafizabad Road, Sheikhupura Road and Ferozewala Road. Their owner declined to shift their units out of the city despite repeated notices issued by city tehsil council.

The report mentioned that 10,000 motorcycle rickshaws and other smoke-emitting vehicles plying on the roads were adding to the environment pollution. Owners paid no heed to warnings issued by the traffic police to overhaul their vehicles.

BAR RALLY: The District Bar Association organized a ‘peace rally’ to urge the Indian and Pakistani governments to refrain from indulging in war which would spell doom for the south Asian region.

The rally started from the district court and concluded on the GT Road. The participants were carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans against war hysteria.

Speaking on the occasion, Bar leaders urged both the countries to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations.
