ISLAMABAD, March 28: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that the government will ensure equitable distribution of water among the provinces.

Talking to former minister for agriculture Abdul Sattar Lalika who called on him here on Thursday, the president assured him that the government would buy the whole production of wheat from the farmers.

He said the government would also improve the existing irrigation system on modern lines to avoid water losses. The president said he was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the farmers and already issued directives to ensure availability of sufficient water to farmers during this season.

According to an official announcement, the president said that he had directed the authorities concerned, including provincial governments’ Passco and the relevant food departments, to aggressively enter into the wheat procurement process.
