Woman, infant perish on road

GUJRANWALA, March 15: A woman and her infant were killed when a motorbike hit them in Cantonment on Friday.

Reports said Irshad, carrying her infant Ihsan Masih, was crossing the road on her way to Rahwali when the motorbike (GAH-4825) knocked her down. The woman and her infant died instantly.

Cantonment police are in search of absconder Amanullah.

LOOTED: Robbers on Friday made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables from an industrialist’s house in Cantonment.

Reports said two armed men barged into soap factory owner Shaikh Muhammad Yousaf’s house when his wife Shahnaz Bano was alone at home. They held up the woman and escaped with Rs25,000 in cash and jewellery weighing 20 tolas.

Police have registered a case.

DEATH SENTENCE: The district and sessions judge on Friday awarded death sentence and a fine of Rs1 million to a convict in a case of narcotics.

Convict Khanzada Khan will have to undergo two-year hard jail in case of non-payment of fine.

The prosecution said the Model Town police on a secret information arrested Khan of Jamrood from the Gujranwala General Bus Stand and recovered five kilogram of hashish from him on Jan 7, 1997.

SUICIDE: A youth on Friday committed suicide by taking poison over financial worries in Garjakh.

Imran had reportedly quarrelled with his parents on not getting pocket money. He took poison and died within minutes.
