Pro-Osama Muslim group to register

SINGAPORE, Jan 20: A small Singapore Muslim group which described Osama bin Laden as a “good Muslim” on its Internet homepage is to be registered as a political website, the Sunday Times reported.

Authorities have been monitoring closely Fateha, an 18-month-old group with 20 members, and its website Fateha.com, for a period of time, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts David Lim said in remarks published on Sunday.

“The process of registering, as we’ve explained many times, does not stop a person from making his points of view heard,” he told reporters.

“But it’s important because it’s not just the right of people to express themselves, but it’s the right of Singaporeans to know who are these people who are expressing themselves, who are these people putting in such ideas,” said Lim.

Website providers are required by law to register with the Singapore Broadcasting Authority if they express or discuss political issues relating to the city-state.
