Internet users face trouble in Larkana

Published November 21, 2001

LARKANA, Nov 20: The Internet facility in Larkana has become tortuous for the small number of modems had left the users to wait for hours to get connected. Presently against about 600 registered users with Paknet, the only ISP in Larkana could hardly provide 16 modems.

It transpired from interviews of different users here that they even wait for two to three hours to get connection during the peak hours.

Despite repeated approaches, the management of Paknet remained unmoved. In this ever-sprawling city, 13 cyber cafes are established and they more often remain connected round the clock leaving only three modems free for the rest of 600 consumers. Very interestingly one among them is in the use of Paknet local office.

This ISP provides internet facility to Larkana, Naudero,Kambar, Shahdadkot, Mirokhan, Badah, Usta Muhammed, Garhi Khairo, Warah and Ratodero having the population of more than one million. It is learnt that federal minister for science and technology was approached time and again but it seems as if all efforts proved fruitless.

The sources in the local ISP told this correspondent that Paknet had sent extra 14 modems for upgrading the facility.

These modems are lying idle in the office for last 5 months.

RALLY: The activists of Jeay Sindh Students Federation and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz here the other day took out a procession protesting over the arrest of JSQM chief Bashir Khan Qureshi and his deputy Dr Niaz Kalani.
