VEHARI, Nov 19: Ramazan bazaars set up in various parts of the district by the Vehari tehsil municipal administration have failed to provide any relief to common man.

People who had come here from far flung areas seemed disappointed to see a sharp increase in the prices of all commodities.

A large number of people complained of sharp increase in the prices of items of daily use during the first three days of Ramazan.

They said tomatoes were being sold at Rs20 per kilogram which were selling at Rs15 per kg before the start of Ramazan. Similarly, potatoes were being sold at Rs24 per kg which were selling at Rs15 per kg before Ramazan, onion at Rs10 per kg instead of Rs7 per kg, peas at Rs30 per kg instead of Rs20 per kg, cauliflower at Rs16 instead of Rs10 per kg, radish at Rs20 per five kgs instead of Rs8 per five kgs, they added.

They said the prices of fruits have also registered a very sharp increase. Apple were being sold at Rs50 per kg instead of Rs35 per kg, bananas at Rs22 per dozen instead of Rs12 per dozen, musami at Rs16 per dozen instead of Rs10 per dozen, guavas at Rs20 per kg instead of Rs12 per kg.

Prices of basin, pakora, samosa, pickle, mutton, chicken, rice, sugar and egg have also been increased, they added.

People also claimed that items being sold in Ramazan bazaars were of inferior quality.
