ISLAMABAD, July 9: Pakistan has no information about a reported proposal for deployment of Indian troops in Afghanistan under the coalition command.

“We have no information about any such proposal,” was Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam’s reaction when her attention was drawn to recent media reports about it.

The spokesperson when contacted on Sunday opted not to say any more on the subject given its speculative nature.

While there is no official confirmation about the reported move to deploy Indian troops in Afghanistan, differing accounts about it have been circulating in the media.

Initial reports about it emanated from New Delhi and the first piece appeared in India’s leading daily The Asian Age about a few weeks ago.

According to reports from across the border, New Delhi was approached for deployment of its troops in Afghanistan by the US and the European Union.

However, other reports suggest that the proposal was mooted by New Delhi which is keen to expand its presence in Afghanistan.
