HYDERABAD, April 29: Police arrested an activist of a banned organization in Latifabad on Thursday. Later, two more people were arrested on the pointation of the activist. Sources said a team of Karachi police raided a house in Latifabad unit 12, and picked up Amiruddin, an alleged activist of a banned militant outfit. It is learnt that two people were also picked up on his pointation from some other places. However, police are reluctant to disclose their identities.

According to some reports, the raiding team also interrogated a religious leader, Maulana Aleem, in Wahdat Colony about the whereabouts of his son Roohul Ameen. The raiding team also included officials of intelligence agencies.

Meanwhile, the district police officer of Hyderabad has asked all SHOs of the district to ensure a ban on the sale of gutkha and manpuri. He also warned elements spreading rumours that police had struck a deal with gutkha manpuri traders, and said action would be taken against them.

ARREST: Police have arrested eight women and 93 men during a raid on a government building within the jurisdiction of GOR police station.

According to police, some of the participants were drunk and a dance programme was going on at the time of the raid. A case has been lodged against them under section 294 and 147, 149, 353 PPC.

POWER THEFT: Hesco chief executive Syed Adeebul Hassan Rizvi has said electricity is being stolen through about 250,000 illegal connections.

According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union, Mr Rizvi was speaking at a meeting of the joint works council in Hussainabad.

Mr Rizvi said line losses could be reduced if company employees worked hard.

Union president Abdul Latif Nizamani presented problems being faced by workers.
