KARACHI, April 29: The City District Government Karachi on the directive of DCO Fazlur Rehman has launched a massive operation against encroachments and land mafia in the city.

According to a CDGK source here on Friday, during the operation about 200 acres of land worth millions of rupees which was encroached upon in Baldia Town, Yousuf Goth and Mowach Goth was retrieved and FIR against eight members of land mafia was registered and the police were asked to arrest them.

Giving details, the source said that the enforcement department of the CDGK got 45 acres of encroached land freed from land mafia in Yousuf Goth. On this land, the land mafia had illegally constructed 70 houses and garages. All these structures were razed by the staff of CDGK.

In yet another operation in Gulshan-i-Ghazi and Qaimkhani Colony in Baldia Town, 100 acres of encroached land was retrieved and 50 structures were demolished. These included houses, boundary walls and huts.

The enforcement staff also confiscated over 10 containers placed illegally on service road at truck stand on Hawkesbay Road. These containers were creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, District Officer Enforcement Abdul Malik in a letter written to TPO Baldia Town directed him to register an FIR against the land mafia active in the area.

The district enforcement officer has also identified these elements as Rasool Shah, Usman Shah, Rohri Shah, Ghaffar, Ranati, Mohammad Khan, Bapoo and Yousuf Bachani.—APP
