LAHORE, June 4: ARD President Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the outcome of the Almaty conference, saying dangers to the integrity of the country had not reduced because of India’s reluctance to hold talks with Gen Musharraf despite mediatiatory efforts by various countries.

In a statement, he said it was being expected that the clouds of war would thin out as the Russian president was trying to bring the leaders of the two nuclear capable states to the negotiating table. But, he regretted, the situation remained unchanged because of Prime Minister Vajpayee’s stubborn attitude.

He said the declaration adopted by the participants had failed to address the ‘state terrorism’ being sponsored by various CICA states.

He said it was a matter of great concern that leaders of some important states which were talking of mediation between India and Pakistan had alleged that Pakistan was still allowing infiltrators into the occupied Kashmir.

The question of the right to self-determination, the ARD chief said, though touched, remained ambiguous.

In such a situation, he said, there was a dire need for the national unity which would come by only with the government taking an initiative to accede to opposition’s demands.
