BAHAWALPUR, April 28: A convict serving 14-year rigorous imprisonment was released from new central jail ‘by mistake.’ The incident came to light after 28 days (Thursday) as he had been released on April 1. Reports said Mahmoodul Hassan had been awarded 14-year imprisonment in a murder case. He has already served four years and yet to undergo 10 years. The jail officials have termed it as ‘mistake.’

However, the jail superintendent on Thursday suspended assistant superintendent Naveed, jail warder Haji Fareed and recommended their arrest.

CRIME DROPS: District Police Officer Arif Nawaz at an open court on Thursday claimed that crime rate had declined during the current year.

He announced strict action against drug traffickers in the area.

WOMEN WING: Women have become active for the forthcoming local government elections after the creation of saddar and city councils replacing the former tehsil council.

A PML press release said here on Thursday that a women wing meeting was held at the residence of district president MPA Sitara Fayyaz. The meeting took stock of the political situation and the LG polls.

The meeting also proposed women candidates and took decisions regarding party’s reorganization. The meeting resolved that the party women will contest at all tiers.
