HYDERABAD, April 28: The on-farm water management has been directed to expedite the lining work of watercourses and ensure completion of the project within the stipulated time so that the objectives are achieved. The project director of the programme monitoring unit of the Sindh National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses, Mohammad Younis Dagha, directed the executing authority during a meeting held to review the ongoing development work at the Shahbaz Hall here on Thursday.

Mr Dagha directed officers concerned to keep close coordination with the irrigation department while designing watercourses.

It should be ensured that designing of watercourses was based on the bed level, full supply level of a channel concerned and sanctioned cross section of watercourse data provided by the irrigation department.

The command area of a watercourse should also be taken into consideration, he further said.

He said under instruction from the Sindh chief minister and the chief secretary, additional irrigation secretary Khadim Hussain Memon had been nominated as the focal person for implementation of the watercourse improvement programme.

He advised the field staff to coordinate with Mr Memon in case of any difficulty on account of the irrigation department in carrying out the work.

Mr Dagha said different vigilant and quality monitoring teams from federal and provincial government departments and the World Bank management would inspect the work quality and designing of watercourses.

He said action would be taken against officials concerned if they failed to maintain quality of work.

He informed the meeting that a problem-shooting committee had been formed.
