LAHORE, April 27: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has directed the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team chairman to appoint a team member to probe into the case of alleged sexual harassment of a patient by a Nishter Hospital’s orthopaedic surgeon. The CMIT member will find facts about the case and report within two weeks.

The horrific incident of sexual harassment allegedly committed by Nishter Medical College and Hospital’s orthopaedic surgeon Prof Ashiq Pervez was reported earlier this month. The complaint was lodged by victim’s husband with college principal Prof Shabbir Nasir.

The principal had forwarded the complaint as well as evidences about sexual harassment to Punjab Health Secretary Sohail Ahmad. On the basis of the complaint, the principal’s report and evidences, the health department had moved a summary to the chief minister, recommending immediate suspension of Prof Pervez.

However, despite claims by the health secretary as well as health minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed, the summary reached the chief minister only a couple of days ago.

According to sources, the chief minister has directed CMIT chairman Shuja Khanzada to appoint one member of his team to find facts in the case and report within two weeks.

Mr Khanzada was not available for comments, as he had gone outstation.
