KARACHI, April 27: Arrangements for the forthcoming local government elections in Sindh were reviewed at a high-level meeting held here on Wednesday under with Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, a judge of Supreme Court, in the chair.

An SHC judge, Justice Mohammad Sadiq Leghari, the provincial election commissioner, Ahmed Ali Halepota, the Chief Secretary, Mohammed Aslam Sanjrani, as well as ACS local government, education secretary and senior officials of the election commission and federal and provincial governments attended the meeting.

Justice Dogar discussed with he participants the preliminary arrangements made for the holding of the elections in two phases in July and August this year.

He inquired from the Sindh government officials about the finalization of boundaries of talukas and UCs in the newly-created districts.

Composition of councils in the new districts and various administrative issues also came under discussion.

The chief secretary informed him that all arrangements would be finalized in 15 days. He also assured him that the government would remain totally impartial in conducting the elections.

Later, talking to newsmen the CEC said that the schedule for the local government elections would be announced in June. He said the local government elections would be held in two phases, starting July 1.—APP
