ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has extended to May 30 the date for the registration of football players, clubs and departments, a special meeting chaired by PFF President Faisal Saleh Hayat decided. PFF has cut by 50 per cent the fee for registration from Rs1000 to Rs500. However, the federation warned that it would not accept registration request after the deadline and consider the failing clubs disaffiliated.
PFF will also refund the excess amount already received from clubs under registration fee.—APP
Four-week ban
BRUSSELS: Belgium’s Xavier Malisse has been suspended for four weeks by the men’s ATP Tour for “aggravated behaviour” after being kicked out of the Nasdaq-100 tournament in March.
Malisse, ranked 36 in the world, was stripped of his prize money from the event, $10,350, and also fined $6,000. He has accepted his punishment.
Malisse was leading 6-3 5-5 in Miami when he was defaulted from his match against Spain’s David Ferrer on March 26.
The spokesman said Malisse had thrown a ball at the line judge, hitting her on the arm. He had also verbally abused an official, kicked over a chair and smashed his racket.
The four-week ban starts from April 25 and Malisse will be able to play in the French Open, the second grand slam of the season. If he is fined for his conduct again this season, Malisse will be banned for a further four weeks.—Reuters
May Day boxing
KARACHI: A two-day May Day Inter-club boxing tournament will be held at Ustad Satoo boxing stadium, Lyari from April 30, Karachi South Boxing Association (KSBA) announced on Tuesday.
The event will be contested in 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44 kilogram boys’ category, and cadet class in 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 57 kilogram.
Fist fighters from all the five districts are eligible to take part in the event.
The weighing-in and medical of the pugilists will be held at Lyari Labor Welfare Centre Boxing Club, Baloch Chowk Chakiwara on Friday between 4.00 to 6.00 pm.—APP
Volleyball series

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan spikers are set to play a five-Test series against Kazakhstan next month with the first match in Islamabad.
Pakistan volleyball secretary, Muhammad Afzal told Dawn that the team is due to arrive on May 9 and will square off with the hosts at the Liaquat Gymnasium the following day.
The four other Tests are in Wah (May 11), Peshawar (13th), Lahore (15th) and Karachi (17th).
Meanwhile, seven teams will feature in the Asian Club Championship which Islamabad is due to host in June.
The draws for the June 1-8 championship have been sent to Asian Volleyball Confederation for approval.
Memorial hockey
KARACHI: Semifinals of All-Karachi Ayub and Matloob Baig Memorial Inter-club hockey tournament will be played at Hockey Club of Pakistan on Wednesday.
Buffer Zone Hockey Club will take on Al-Saghir at 3.30 pm in the first semifinal, while in the second Al-Faisal Club will play Hanif Khan XI at 5.00 pm.—APP
