KARACHI, April 26: Things have started returning to normality at the Government Jinnah College, Nazimabad, where academic activities remained affected for almost a week after a rumpus. Sources in the college said that degree class teaching had been resumed at the college, while intermediate class students were taking their terminal examinations.

Terminal examinations of intermediate class students were put off after clash between activists of two student groups and alleged act of kidnapping and torture resulting in the death of a college student, Farhan Asif, on April 18.

The in charge principal of the college, Prof Mohammad Saeed Khan, said that terminal examinations aimed at preparing the students for intermediate annual exams of the educational board, would continue till April 27, after which the intermediate class teaching at the college would remain suspended till the commencement of new academic session.

When asked about the thin attendance at the college, Mr Khan said that it was a routine that attendance decreased in days ahead of the HSC annual examinations every year as students prefer to stay at home for preparations.

Only those who are required to get their science journals complete and certified for practical examinations will be visiting the college, after the terminal examinations, he added.

However, a source said that it would take another few days to see the things a complete normal at the college. Though some fresh measures have been taken to avert clashes on the campus by the college administration, at present the student activists of two opponent organizations are not entering the college, added the source.
