KARACHI, March 6: Various singers kept a large number of music lovers spellbound for over three hours with the poetry of great mystic poets like Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai , Sachal Sarmast and Sami at a function organized by the Sindh Madressahtul Islam on Saturday evening.

The audience, majority of whom was the teenaged students of the Madressah, visibly felt the force in the message of mystic poets. Over a century-old building of the madressah presented an ideal location for conveying their message of love, brotherhood, tolerance and peace.

The poetry of Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast and Bhai Chainrai Saami was presented by the folk singers belonging to different parts of the province from Tharparkar in the south to Daraza Sharif almost in the north.

Faqirs of Daraza Sharif presented the poetry of Sachal Sarmast, and Sadiq Faqir from the Tharparkar presented the poetry of Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai and Sachal Sarmast. Haneef Lashari presented the poetry of Makhdoom Talibul Maula and Shaikh Ayaz. Shafi Faqeer, Laila Lateefi and Shahneela Ali also performed.

Earlier, Sindh Madressahtul Islam principal Mohammad Ali Shaikh, in his welcome address, said that Sindh had been a land of love and peace where people from diverse backgrounds and different religions had been living in peace and tranquillity for thousands of years. The mystic poets of Sindh in their poetry had also been promoting the message of tolerance, he added.

He said that the main objective to organize this music programme was to develop awareness among people in the age of wars, battles and hatred through the poetic message of love and peace, PPI adds. "This kind of activity is also a part of academic functions of this great institution of the subcontinent," he concluded.

Among others, the programme was attended by Sindh Public Service Commission Chairman and DG Rangers.
