BAHAWALPUR, March 5: Local transporters at a meeting here on Saturday supported the decision of Pakistan Motor Transport Federation to observe strike on March 10 against increase in prices of petroleum products.

They said the government did not increase fares for the last one year while it revised POL prices upward many times.

Meanwhile, Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) President Chaudhry Abdul Sattar in a statement said that the increase in POL prices would injure economy and severely hit the middle class. He demanded that the prices should be brought down to provide relief to industry.

EAGLE SQUAD: District Police Officer Arif Nawaz has ordered the Eagle Squad not to harass general public and improve their performance. Addressing the squad at district police lines here on Saturday, the DPO asked the officials to intensify patrolling in the city and wear helmets during duty hours.

HELMET: The motorcyclists, who could not purchase helmets during the last four days, have heaved a sigh of relief after the decision of the high court providing them a month to purchase helmets. However, police officials on Saturday continued crackdown on bikers. When they were informed about the grace period, the policemen insisted that they had not received any notification from their highups in this regard.

After arguments by the motorcyclists, the traffic police refrained from issuing them fine slips.
