PESHAWAR, Feb 26: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Saturday disconnected power supply to 88 offices of district, provincial and federal governments on non-payment of dues.

The action is a part of Pesco's ongoing dues-recovery campaign against public sector consumers, said a press release of the company.

Pesco has an outstanding amount of Rs1.2 billion against offices and institutions of district, provincial and federal governments. At the start of the campaign, Pesco had served disconnection-notices to all defaulting institutions and had also publicized the campaign through media.

The defaulters were informed that in case they failed to pay dues, power supply to them would be disconnected by February 15. The dead line, however, was extended by one week due to Ashura yet most of the defaulters failed to pay outstanding as well as current dues of Pesco.

Power supply to hospitals and tube wells with lesser arrears was not disconnected to save general public from inconvenience. Chief executive Pesco said the basic aim of the campaign was to recover arrears and not to create difficulties for people.

Meanwhile during the first three days of the campaign, Pesco has recovered Rs10 million. The press release said power supply to remaining defaulting institutions would also be disconnected soon.-APP
