FAISALABAD, Feb 12: An under-trial prisoner suffered serious head injuries during a clash between two groups of jailbirds in the district courts here on Saturday.

Reports said prisoners Shahbaz Ahmad, Abdul Majeed and Muhammad Ali attacked three other captives Muhammad Akram, Mangal Khan and Haku Khan with their handcuffs. Both the groups were locked in scuffle during which Akram suffered serious head injuries.

Some of the relatives of the prisoners also jumped the fray, which deteriorated the situation.

Policemen on duty immediately called the Elite Force squad and other commandos, who reached the troubled spot and overpowered the prisoners. They were shifted to Kotwali police station for interrogation.

Police said the clash was an outcome of differences the two groups had developed during their confinement at the central jail.

Robbery: Four masked men took away Rs900,000 in cash from the staff of a local garments unit in Nishatabad here on Saturday night.

The staff said the gunmen forced their entry into the factory and took the at gunpoint. They collected the cash kept in an iron safe and sped away on two motorcycles.

Police were informed immediately after the incident but no clue to the robbers has so far been found.
