MIRPURKHAS, Feb 10: The labour union of the Nara canal irrigation circle has expressed concern over recruitment of employees on contract basis in the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the president of the union, Mr Mubarak Chandio, vice-president, Ishaque Khaskheli and general-secretary Haider Bux alleged that Sida authorities and the director Nara canal had recruited employees after taking a bribe. They demanded that children of employees should be appointed on vacant posts.

They said if their demands were not met they would be compelled to launch a protest campaign and irrigation authorities would be responsible for it.

PPP: Under the directives of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, a district election board was formed for local bodies' elections.

A press release issued here on Thursday said Noor Hassan Chandio was appointed as the in-charge of the district board.

MNAs and MPAs of the district, members of the district executive committee and federal council and Sindh council would be members of the board. Presidents of talukas will be in-charges of respective taluka boards.

Nazims of UCs, naib nazims, councillors including women of district and talukas have been asked to submit their applications to boards concerned till Feb 20.

MCCI: The president of the Mirpurkhas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Abdul Khaliq Khan, has expressed concern over poor sanitary condition of the city. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the sewerage system had collapsed in the city.

He said the city needed a massive development plan instead of pumping machines that had been installed by the TMA for draining out sewerage water. He said after a passage of some days sewerage water would again accumulate on the main roads and streets causing problems to people.
