KARACHI: Young man killed in Lyari

KARACHI, Feb 9: Unknown persons gunned down a young man in Lyari on Wednesday morning. Police said two suspects on a motorcycle opened fire at Qazzafi, 22, in Memon Colony in Kalri police station limits.

Police said that the young man was son of a local councilor Khursheed. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital sources said that the young man had suffered multiple bullet wounds.

In Nazimabad, unknown persons killed an elderly man on Wednesday. Police said that unknown bandits barged into the house of Yousaf, 60, in Nazimabad No.4 and killed him by hitting with a blunt weapon in his head. The suspects escaped after collecting Rs 600 and prize bounds from the house.

The victim was living alone in his house. Police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy examination.

ENCOUNTER: A bandit was killed and four persons, including two armed suspects, were wounded in an encounter with police in SITE Wednesday.

TPO SITE Imran Shaukat told Dawn that Faisal Amin, owner of Sony Textile, was returning to his factory after withdrawing Rs 575,000 salary of his staff from Metropolitan Bank branch. Mr Amin was accompanied by his accountant, driver and a police guard.

When their vehicle reached Pathan Colony, they were intercepted by three armed suspects who opened fire at the vehicle, wounding the driver, Hanif. A young pedestrian girl, was also wounded. However, she is stated to be out of danger.

TPO SITE said that police constable Masoodur Rehman alighted from the car and returned the fire, killing a suspect, Mohammad Amin, and wounding Liaq Ahmed who also fell on the ground.

However, their third accomplice, Ghani Khan, fled. The police constable chased him and shot him in the leg. The constable pulled the suspect to the spot where his two accomplices were lying. Police recovered three TT pistols from their possession.

The entire amount remained safe, TPO added. The wounded suspects were taken to the Civil Hospital where they were admitted for treatment. Laiq Ahmed who suffered a bullet wound in the chest was stated to be in a serious condition, police added.
