ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: National Assembly standing committee on interior has observed that ongoing reforms in the police department would change the attitude of the police and turn it into a public-friendly institution.

The committee gave these observations during a visit to National Police Bureau (NPB) on Tuesday.

Giving a detailed briefing to the committee members, the director-general of the bureau, Dr Shoaib Suddle, said: "The essence of reforms is to inculcate friendly police attitude and to transform it from public frightening institution to an accountable public service."

He also discussed in detail the functioning of the bureau and its role in the ongoing police reforms process.

Various perspectives of these reforms and promulgation of Police Order 2002 also came under discussion.

The official also briefed the committee about the new institutions being created under Police Order 2002 and the capacity building projects implemented by the NPB.

The meeting was attended by MNAs, Rajab Ali Khan Baluch, Muhammad Saeed Virk, Manzoor Hussain Wassan, Ms Onaza Ehsan, Muhammad Safdar Shaker, Malik Niaz Ahmad Jhakar, Naheed Khan, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Farid Ahmed Piracha, Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Sadiq.
