Four Bidders lift Hadi Cup

KARACHI, Feb 6: Four Bidders Club lifted Hadi Cup bridge with the score of 88 Victory Points (VPs) at the Aslam Bridge Hall, National Stadium on Saturday.

Four Bidders' Saleem Ahmed, Zafar Zaki, Tariq Zafar and Syed Ameer Hasan put up a spirited fight to win four out of five matches of the tournament.

After losing the first round match to Alliance Green 10-20, Four Bidders defeated Karachi Club (Akber) 17-13 in the second round.

Ahmed IV fell to their own aggression in the third round when Four Bidders started capitalizing on every bidding and netted 19-11 VPs.

Mahmood IV went down fighting in the fourth round 21-9 to the winners, who faced ladies' best team Bridgettes in the last round.

Four Bidders won the last round 22-8 and raised their tally to 88 VPs. Ahmed IV netted 17 VPs after they got a bye in the first round, then they lost to Alliance Blue 14-16 and Four Bidders Club 11-19 only to roar back in the last two matches to defeat Karachi Club (Akber) 21-9 and Alliance Green 22-8.

Ahmed, Cmdr Sami Shakeel Chandna and K K Suri played for Ahmed IV.

Alliance Green jumped to front row with a 20-10 win against Four Bidders, then the two combinations of Anwer Baig-A Kader, Mahmood Siddiqui-Zakaria outplayed Naqvi 18-12, Bridgettes 20-10 and Four Bidders 21-9. However, their last match made all the difference when Ahmed IV defeated them 22-8.

Bridgettes comprising Rehana Saigol, Zeenat Azwer, Abida Ali and Shahnaz finished fourth with 82 VPs winning three matches from Karachi Club (Akber) 20-10, Mehmood IV 18-12 and Four Bidders 25.5, and losing two matches to Alliance Green 10-20 and Four Bidders 21-9.-PPI
