PESHAWAR, Feb 6: The government will spend Rs680.9 million to complete different pilot uplift projects in the South Waziristan Agency in fiscal 2004-05, under the Annual Developmental Plan.

Speaking to the elders of the agency here on Sunday, councillor Arif Zaman Birki at Huqa Kanigram said that about Rs128.7 million would be spent on education plans, Rs60.4 million on health projects and Rs106.1 million for the development of communication infrastructure in the South Waziristan Agency.

The government, he said, was making an all-out effort for the development of Fata.

It was due to the personal interest of NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah that a large number of developmental schemes had been completed in the South Waziristan Agency, he added.

He welcomed the councillors' election in Fata and said it would not only help in checking the quality of the developmental projects, but also address the genuine problems of the South Waziristan Agency.

The councillor asked the tribal elders to help the government in rooting out of terrorism and working for the progress and prosperity of the country.-APP
