LAHORE, Feb 5; Polish Ambassador Boglan Merezewski has said that his country is interested in expansion of economic relations with Pakistan in all the fields.

Talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Misbahur Rehman during a visit to the chamber here on Saturday, the ambassador said that there was a lot of scope for increasing economic cooperation between the two countries through increased information. He said that the Polish Embassy would facilitate exchange of information between the business communities of the two countries for strengthening the economic relations.

LCCI President Mian Misbahur Rehman said that the chambers of both the countries could facilitate the exchange of business information and frequent visits of trade delegations and holding of single country exhibitions could no doubt help in increasing the economic cooperation between the two countries through joint ventures but Pakistani businessmen were worried about the prospects of doing business with Poland due to its inclusion in the European Union. Concerns of economies like Pakistan emanated from what could be termed invisible non-tariff barriers hindering free trade regime.

He said that customs union like the EU were prone to erect an invisible iron curtain around their economies making business transactions difficult for developing countries like Pakistan which were already under pressure for implementing social and environmental parameters prescribed by the developed world.

LCCI Senior Vice-President Sohail Lashari called upon the ambassador to send a delegation of businessmen of his country to Pakistan to enable them to have a first-hand knowledge of economic opportunities.
