PESHAWAR, Feb 5: Provincial Minister for Science and Technology Hussain Ahmed Kanju has stressed the need for research work in the field of agriculture to boost economy of the country.

Speaking at the 24th foundation day of the Agriculture University of Peshawar (AUOP), which was observed here on Friday, Mr Kanju said that the University had all modern facilities and technological requirements so it should be utilized for research work.

He said that the university had shown improvement in various fields of agriculture.

He said, "Being an agrarian economy, Pakistan should be self sufficient in agricultural production but unfortunately the desired goal has still not been achieved."

He stressed to do more research in the field of agriculture so that the province could achieve self-sufficiency in the field of agriculture.

The minister showed dissatisfaction that only two per cent of the research was done practically while 98 per cent was limited to paper work only.

He asked the university to determine its targets and work hard to achieve them.
