SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 20: The district police claimed to have arrested over 600 fugitives, including 200 proclaimed offenders, in a grand operation launched against the anti-social elements during the last several days. This was stated by District Police Officer Shahid Iqbal here on Wednesday.

The DPO said that several police teams were constituted who conducted raids at the hideouts of outlaws in different parts of the district.

He said some of the outlaws were arrested after encounters. He said the arrested accused had been handed over to the police stations concerned.

Initial investigation revealed that the arrested outlaws were involved in cases of heinous crimes like murder, gang-rape, kidnap for ransom, robbery and theft, he added.

The police, he claimed, had also recovered weapons from the possession of the arrested outlaws. He said further investigation was under way.

The DPO said that the raiding teams would be given cash prizes and commendation certificates.
