PESHAWAR, June 3: The NWFP government has drawn up a plan to spend over Rs14 billion on micro-level, district-based development schemes under the umbrella of Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP) during the next five years, according to sources.

The plan envisages increasing the KPP spending gradually every year in all the 23 districts and one tribal agency in the province.

As per the district-wise allocations chalked out for the next five financial years, the 24 district governments would collectively receive Rs2,310m in the 2002-03 financial year, Rs2,541m in 2003-04, Rs2,795m in 2004-05, Rs3,074.6m in 2005-06 and Rs3,382m in 2006-07.

The money would be utilized on developing micro-level development schemes in the education, health, water and roads sectors.

The blueprint indicates that the city district government of Peshawar would get the maximum funds — Rs1.8bn during the next five years, including Rs296m in 2002-03, Rs325m in 2003-04, Rs358m in 2004-05, Rs394m in 2005-05 and Rs433m in 2006-07.

Mardan district would be the only other administrative unit that would get funds, under the KPP, beyond Rs1bn. The total five-year share of the Mardan district has been calculated at Rs1.02 bn, including Rs167m in 2002-03, Rs184m in 2003-04, Rs202m in 2004-05, Rs222m in 2005-06 and Rs245m in 2006-07

Charsadda, Haripur, Mansehra, Nowshera, Swabi, Dera Ismail Khan and Swat districts are the ones slated to separately get Rs100m every year during the five-year span — a share from the KPP comparatively higher than those of the remaining 15 districts, because of heavy concentration of population there.

Charsadda district has been projected to get over Rs808m during the next five years, Haripur Rs697m, Mansehra Rs740m, Mardan Rs1.bn, Nowshera Rs704m, Swabi Rs768m, Dera Ismail Khan Rs639m and Swat Rs984m.

Among the remaining districts, Abbottabad has been projected to get Rs515m KPP funds in five years, Bannu Rs477m, Battagram Rs334m, Buner Rs435m, Chitral Rs307m, Dir lower Rs481m, Dir upper Rs482m, Hangu Rs320m, Karak Rs306m, Kohat Rs483m, Kohistan Rs439m, Lakki Marwat Rs389m, Malakand Rs378m and Shangla district has been projected to get Rs372m.
