ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Parliamentarians from 55 countries will attend the fifth general assembly conference of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace being held here from Nov 29 to Dec 1.

The conference of parliamentarians of Asian countries being hosted by Pakistan is recognition of the revival of the democratic system in the country.

Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain, the host of the conference, said more than 32 countries had so far confirmed their participation in the conference. India would participate as an observer, he said.

The first general assembly of the AAPP was held in Bangladesh (1999), second in Cambodia (2001), third in China (2002) and fourth was held in the Philippines (2003).

Chaudhry Amir Hussain said the AAPP conference would find new avenues for promoting mutual trade and peace in the region.

The conference would also focus on strengthening Asian parliaments, prevent wars as well as human and drugs trafficking.

It would also provide an opportunity for promoting peace, trade, friendship and mutual coordination among the member nations.-APP
