NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Nov 27: An ASI of police was detained in the police quarter guard for having a false case registered against and opening fire at the chairman of the Citizens' Committee, Darya Khan Mari union council, on Friday.

ASI Zulfiqar Wagan was locked up on the directive of District Police Officer Sikandar Ali Mangi on the complaint of the chairman, Ali Nawaz Mari.

In his complaint, Mr Nawaz said that while passing through the Shahi Bazaar, he witnessed that the ASI, along with two police constables in plainclothes, had caught hold of a mentally retarded person, Abdo, and were taking him to the police station.

He requested the ASI to act according to law and let go of the innocent man, he claimed, adding that the ASI lodged a false case against him under sections 353, 147, 148 and 506/2 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The ASI, on being transferred to the police line, got enraged and, on Friday night, he, along with four policemen in plainclothes, went to the house of Mr Nawaz and opened fire at him with a pistol.

The Naushahro Feroze TPO, appointed to investigate the matter, has initiated an enquiry. Surprisingly, hundreds of people from different walks of life turned up at the time of the enquiry and had their statements recorded.
