SUKKUR, June 3: Fifteen people, five of them policemen, were injured in a clash between tribesmen and a police team in village Mirani, near Kandhkot, on Monday.

The police team was dispatched to the village for the arrest of a dacoit, Ali Gul Mirani, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a man, Aamir Arain.

At the time police surrounded the village, a marriage ceremony was under way there and the tribesmen requested the police not to disturb the guests.

Police refused to oblige the tribesmen which prompted an angry reaction from the other side. After heated exchanges and fist-fighting, someone fired shots leading to a gunbattle between the two sides.

An ASI, Amanullah Shar, and four constables, Ali Dost, Ali Goher, Imdad and Allah Dino were among 15 people who sustained injuries during the clash.

The police team had to return to their respective police stations without conducting any raid or make arrests.

However, a case was registered against 25 Mirani tribesmen including Ghous Dino, Ali Gul, Asghar, Baghan and Atif.
