HYDERABAD, Nov 9: Two women members of the district council belonging to the Al-Khidmat group have condemned the resumption of work on a commercial plaza in Ayesha Park, Latifabad-8, by the taluka municipal administration.

In a joint statement issued here on Monday, councillors Shahnaz Baqai and Sumaira Ikhlaq said that park was reserved for women but the Latifabad taluka nazim was trying to construct a commercial plaza inside it, which would be resisted.

They said that earlier, they had protested against the construction of the plaza in the district council session as a result the Nazim had stopped the construction work.

They alleged that now as the tenure of the councils was about to end, the taluka nazim had resumed the construction work as he had vested interests in the plaza which was in the knowledge of all and sundry.

They regretted that while no attention was being paid to improving the civic infrastructure in Latifabad, the taluka nazim was concentrating on the construction of the plaza.

They warned the nazim that if the plaza scheme was not abandoned, the women of Latifabad would launch a protest movement against him after Eidul Fitr.

They councillors called upon the Sindh government to hold an inquiry into the alleged corrupt practices of the taluka nazim.
