SWABI, Nov 7: The Swabi police seized 20kg heroin and 45kg charas in two raids on Sunday. The Swabi superintendent of police told journalists on Sunday that they had got information about the involvement of some people in heroin smuggling from different regions of the NWFP to Punjab via Topi-Pehur road but they were looking for an opportunity and stayed in the district.

Acting on a tip, he said the police raided a house and recovered 20kg heroin and 10kg charas and arrested Amanullah, Usman Ghani and Hikmat Khan.

He said the smugglers tried to escape but all of them were arrested.

In another raid, he said, the police recovered 35kg charas from a car and arrested Noor Zaman and Irshad and Zahoor.

He said all the arrested persons belonged to Mardan and they planned to smuggle the contraband to Punjab, using the Topi-Ghazi road.

The police also registered a case against them under the relevant law and started investigations.
