HYDERABAD, Nov 7: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has disclosed that the Sindh government has allocated Rs1 billion as the first instalment of the Hyderabad Development Package

He added that a consultant for development works under the project had been appointed and the project director would also be appointed soon.

He was speaking at an Iftar party hosted by outgoing Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Emad Siddiqui for newly-elected president Mehmood Ahmad and other members of the executive committee here on Saturday.

The nazim appreciated efforts of the chamber in approval and restoration of the Hyderabad package.

He said the water supply and sewerage plan of the district had been prepared which would be unfolded before the business community and other people concerned to seek their opinion.

Mr Rafiquzzaman said development of the city depended on better sewerage system. He regretted that newly constructed roads were soon destroyed because of overflowing sewage as sewerage had collapsed.

He praised the role of nazims of City and Latifabad talukas in development of their areas.

Saying that the elections for local councils were round the corner, he urged the chamber to extend full cooperation to the new district government irrespective of the fact whether he himself took part in the elections or not.

Emad Siddiqui, Mehmood Ahmad, Mohammad Akram Ansari and others also spoke on the occasion.

City Taluka Nazim Moinuddin Shaikh, Naib Nazim Abdul Qadeer Naghar, Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan, Isra University Vice-Chancellor Dr Asadullah Kazi and others attended the party.

DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES: Sindh Assembly members Arshad Shah, Naeem Ishtiaq and Aslam Parvez have urged Hyderabad Development Authority officials to complete ongoing development schemes as soon as possible to redress grievances of people with regard to water supply and sewerage.

They were speaking at a meeting of departmental heads of the HDA here on Saturday.

HDA director-general Tahir Ahmad, Water and Sanitation Agency managing-director Shaukat Hayat Bhutto, planning and development control director Iqbal Memon and other officials concerned gave a detailed briefing to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPAs about progress of the development schemes.

The legislators stressed the need for improving the recovery system of Wasa.

They also asked the HDA director-general to convene a meeting of commercial and government departments which had defaulted on payment of arrears.

They directed the building control department to take legal action against builders and developers raising constructions without approval of the department.
