GUJRANWALA, Nov 6: Around 75 shopkeepers, including butchers, were caught red-handed while selling commodities at higher prices by raiding teams of the district administration here on Saturday.

Teams led by district officer (revenue) Najam Ahmad raided at Naushera Virkan, Kamoki, Wazirabad, Ghakkhar, Alipur Chattha, Qila Dedar Singh, Sodara and interior of the city and checked the price lists. The raiding teams recovered Rs120,000 collectively as fine from them. The raiding team also got arrested four shopkeepers for overcharging and hoarding.

Meanwhile, small shopkeepers of Ghakkhar Town, including fruit sellers, expressed their resentment over the tehsil administration for fining Rs3,000 each.

They demanded that an impartial inquiry should be conducted against the raiding team who were out to impose heavy fines on small shopkeepers.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, has announced public holiday on Nov 9 in connection with the Iqbal Day.

This was stated by board secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Anwer in a press release issued here on Saturday.
