GUJRANWALA, Nov 6: The public transport situation in the city 'worsened' here on Saturday after the district administration and the Regional Transport Authority refused to release the impounded wagons without permission of the transport department.

Reports said the RTA secretary withdrew about 650 wagons of Transport Society Gujranwala plying from Gujranwala to Wazirabad, Ghakkhar, Rahwali, Eminabad and Kamoki following cancelling the route permits under the franchize policy. But when owners of the franchized buses failed to bring the required number of vehicles on the GT Road, the RTA allowed wagon owners to ply their vehicles till the arrival of more buses.

Later, the RTA along with district administration impounded wagons plying on the GT Road on the 'directions' of the transport department.

Meanwhile, passengers of Ghakkhar Town have appealed to the Supreme Court to implement its decision in this regard.
