KARACHI, Nov 4: Pakistan will compete in the first edition of World Universities Boxing Championship to be held later this month at Antalia, Turkey.

This was disclosed by chairman Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Prof. Anwar Chowdhry on Thursday.

"We will compete in the championship with strong team comprising of three pugilists, a manager, referee and coach. We are expecting some 40 to 45 countries to participate in the championship which would made it very tough," he said.

Prof. Chowdhry also president of Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) said the (AIBA) have proposed Federation of International Sports Universities (FISU) to include boxing in World Universade Games which was a biennial event.

He said that FISU in return asked to hold a world universities competition so they could see the standard and interest of countries in the competition before including it in World Universade Games.

"We have sent the invitation to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to name their boys for World Universities Championship and they have asked us to first hold a camp at Karachi for the selection of boys," he informed.

Prof Chowdhry said that the camp would be held under secretary Sindh Boxing Association (SBA) Akram Khan at Muslim Azad Club from Nov 9 and added that they were expecting about 12 to 15 boys to attend the camp.-PPI
