LAHORE, Nov 4: Two motorcyclists sprayed a volley of bullets on a police patrol and hurled a grenade at a house in Garden Town on Thursday injuring a boy. However, police rejected the incident as a terrorist act and called the two robbers, who did that to escape arrest.

"Not at all. It has nothing to do with terrorism," Model Town police SP Mirza Farhan Baig said. The two men were robbers, who were surrounded by a police patrol when they were attempting to rob a woman near the Punjab University New Campus.

Eyewitnesses said the patrol intercepted the motorcyclists who opened fire on them.

Twenty shells of an automatic weapon were found from the crime scene. The bullets smashed the windscreen of the patrol car. Two bullets also hit a passerby boy, identified as Muhammad Boota, 6, in his legs. Doctors stated his condition as critical.

The patrol chased the miscreants, who entered Tariq Block of Garden Town and hurled a grenade at a house. The grenade did not go off while the motorcyclists made good their escape.

Bomb Disposal Squad and other agencies rushed to the spot and took the grenade in custody.

MURDER: Two gunmen shot dead a woman at Madina Colony in South Cantonment on Thursday.

Aslam told police that two men tried to force their entry into his house. On resistance they opened fire on his wife Khurshid, 35, and escaped. She was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.

Her body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. No case has so far been registered.

Aslam denied having any enmity and suspected the two men could be robbers.
