GILGIT, Nov 3: The future of over 50 students of the information technology in the Northern Areas is uncertain because of a tussle between the Karakoram International University and the Northern Areas education dept.

Speaking at a press conference, the representatives of the IT students said that currently they had no place to go for pursuing their studies as neither of the institutions is accepting them.

They said they had deposited fee in KIU on the assurances of the vice-chancellor but they said the registrar of KIU was reluctant to allow them to admit them. They said they had already completed four semesters at the KIU after a delay of 18 months and now given the tussle over funds, the students are made to suffer.

They said the Northern Areas Education Department is ready to run the IT project in KIU only for two more years just to offset their academic losses but the KIU registrar was adamant not to own them. They said so far they had no affiliation with KIU nor with any other university and they apprehended that they would not be able to obtain a degree from KIU if the tussle was continued.

They said due to this battle of institutions, at least 50 students of IT had withdrawn their admissions and there was no arrangement for their classes.

They said though the NAED had arranged a separate premises for running the classes but there was no back-up (junior) classes to complete the semester in case of the supplementary examinations.
