HYDERABAD, Nov 3: Residents of Gujrati Para pelted a police van with stones after police took away Arif Yousufzai, suspected to be involved in the killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist Saleem Inqilabi.

Yousufzai had attended the soyem of Inqilabi in the Norrani Masjid. As soon as he came out of the mosque, he was caught by some furious Muttahida activists who gave him severe thrashing.

Police intervened and took him away to the Phuleli police station. Thereafter, the residents hurled stones on a police van, forced the shopkeepers to close shops and disrupted rail traffic at the Tando Yousuf railway crossing for a brief period.

A police source said that some shots were also fired in the air during the protest.

So far, any case has not been lodged regarding the murder of Inqilabi who was gunned down near the railway crossing on Tuesday. However, around eight suspects have been detained by police for interrogation. Shahid Abbasi, said to be the main suspect, is still at large.
