KARACHI, Nov 3: The Sindh Minister for Education, Dr Hamida Khuhro, has announced setting up computer learning and teachers training centres at district and taluka levels throughout the province.

She said this while holding discussions with the Provincial Manager of the Education Sector Reforms Assistance (ESRA), Waqar Ayoob, regarding revamping the education system in Sindh.

The minister also emphasised the need to promote technical learning with special emphasis on computer based skill development.

She also pointed out that the dropout ratio of children was a big problem, which could be resolved by making education job-oriented.

In this regard, she said that every child especially those of the rural population in the age group from seven to 10 years must have access to computers.

Dr Hamida pointed out that she was working on a plan to give new boost and promotion to education which included establishment of a computer learning network and vocational and technical education centres.

She a laid emphasis on the need for a mass awareness campaign to motivate every parent to bring his child for enrolment.

The minister on the occasion said that teachers would also be provided training in the latest teaching methods.

The department was setting up electronic management information system centres in each district for collection and updating of data related with the education system, Dr Hamida added.

She maintained that leadership skill development training to heads of educational institutions and revision of curriculum was among her top priorities, adding that she had sought financial and technical aid from ESRA and other donor agencies in this regard. - APP
