FAISALABAD, Nov 2: Thirteen people sustained injuries, one of them critical, when two groups traded fire over the issue of control of a mosque in Chak 124 GB of Jaranwala on Monday night.

Eyewitnesses said members of two group of the area exchanged hot words over the issue of appointing a prayer leader (imam) in Jamia Masjid Rodi. They opened fire on each other after disagreement on the issue. The injured were rushed to the THQ Hospital where the condition of Sarfraz Ahmad was stated to be critical.

Police teams were rushed to the spot and armed commandos were deputed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.

SHOT DEAD: Robbers shot dead the owner of a drug shop in Jaranwala on Monday night.

Masked men tried to intercept Malik Naeem when he was on his way home but he accelerated his motorcycle to avoid them. The gunmen opened fire on speeding motorcyclist killing him on the spot.

HOUSE ROBBERY: A gang of bandits robbed the house of a local journalist in People's Colony here on Monday night.

The masked robbers forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Rabbani and escaped with thousands of rupees in cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.

Police are investigating.

CASE REGISTERED: People's Colony police registered a case against seven students of the Government College of Commerce for beating up the crew of a passenger bus, robbing cash and damaging the vehicle here on Tuesday.

A bus conductor claimed before the police that a group of students, headed by Waqas Ahmad, boarded the bus and attacked him and driver without any reason. He alleged that they also snatched Rs900 from him and also damaged the bus.

On the other hand, the students informed the police that the crew of a bus, said to be an influential personality of the city, thrashed them during a minor altercation. The bus owner and staff registered a false case against them to harass and blackmail them.
