HYDERABAD, Oct 30: The Anti-Greater Thal Canal and Kalabagh Dam Action Committee has decided to meet with the international funding agencies and ambassadors within a month to apprise them of adverse effects of the water projects on Sindh and persuade them not to advance any funds for these projects.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of the action committee held at the residence of People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi here on Friday.

The Sindh president of the party, Mr Qaim Ali Shah, presided over the meeting.

Briefing newsmen, Mr Shah said the committee members would present the Sindh case and try to convince the funding agencies and ambassadors in Islamabad that the some water projects had been rejected by three provinces and therefore their funding would prove very dangerous for the country.

Mr Shah said the committee had also decided to organize an all-Pakistan water conference in Karachi on Dec 5 which would be attended by the representatives of political parties and organizations.

He said an organizing committee comprising representatives of parties affiliated with the action committee had been appointed to make preparations for the water conference.

He said that during the phase-wise struggle against the water projects, protest demonstrations and sit-ins would be held at the district level and later at the central level.

He said tens of millions of people would participate in the protest.

Answering a question about the convenorship of the committee which has remained with the PPP right from the day one, Mr Shah said the post could be changed by the committee.

He said seven per cent work on the Thal canal had been completed and added that he had no wishful thinking that the rulers would stop the work due to protest.

He, however, said the people's avalanche could also demolish the construction.

Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo called upon the rulers to read the writing on the wall and said they could not fight with the people of Sindh, Balochistan, Wana and India simultaneously.

WHEAT SUPPLY: The deputy director food has said that 32,709 tons of wheat against total allocation of 33,944 tons has so far been released to grinding units of Hyderabad region during the current month which includes 52 per cent increase as Ramazan quota.

In a press statement issued here on Saturday, he said the remaining quantity of wheat allocation was in process.

He said the R.F.Mills had established wheat flour stalls at different places in the city and towns where flour was available at the rate of Rs120 per 10 kgs.

He said the food department was monitoring the working of mills and chakkis to ensure availability of flour at fixed rate.
